Music at Day School: Skill. Expression. Joy.

Music is more than a subject at Evansville Day School—it’s a language our students learn to speak with confidence and creativity. Through vocal and instrumental training, music theory, and performance, students discover the joy of making music and the discipline that comes with it.

Our Program

All students from Junior Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade take a Performing Arts class that includes singing, movement, and music fundamentals. Beginning in Primary School, students build musicianship by learning to read music and play instruments like the xylophone, recorder, and ukulele. These instruments help students internalize pitch, scales, and solfège through hands-on exploration.

In 5th grade, every student learns a band instrument as part of the music curriculum. This introduction to instrumental performance sets the stage for continued participation in Middle and Upper School ensembles.

Students in grades 6 and 7 are required to participate in band, choir, or both. By 8th grade, participation becomes optional—but many students continue because they love it. Rehearsals are built into the school schedule, so students don’t have to choose between music and other passions—they can do it all.

Evansville Day School Music

Performances

From Performing Arts Night to all-school assemblies to state competitions, students regularly showcase their talent and hard work. Our Upper School musicians recently performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and our ensembles consistently earn top honors at the Indiana State Music Competition—both as groups and as individuals.

Whether your child is picking up an instrument for the first time or preparing for a solo performance, music at Day School offers a place to grow, express, and shine.
