Visual Arts at Day School: Imagination. Technique. Voice.

At Evansville Day School, we believe every student is an artist—with ideas worth expressing and skills worth developing. Our visual arts program nurtures creativity from the earliest years while helping students build the techniques they need to bring their vision to life.

Our Program

Starting in Kindergarten, students attend art class several times each week with our dedicated Primary School art teacher. They explore a variety of media and contribute to schoolwide events like Gnome Night by creating original decorations and collaborative projects.

In Grades 6-8, all students take a visual arts course that balances open-ended creativity with intentional skill-building. Whether experimenting with color and design or learning perspective and shading, students are challenged to think like artists—curious, observant, and determined.

Upper School students can choose from four levels of Studio Art, diving deeper into specific techniques and media as they grow. Their work frequently earns recognition at regional art competitions, and many build portfolios that reflect both personal expression and technical growth.

Gallery Night

Each spring, the entire school community comes together for Gallery Night, a beloved tradition where every student—from our youngest creators to our most advanced artists—shares their best work of the year. It’s a celebration of process, growth, and the vibrant imagination that lives in every Day School student.

Whether your child is picking up a paintbrush for the first time or preparing a competition portfolio, our visual arts program offers space to explore, create, and be seen.
