Student Life at Evansville Day School

Student life at Evansville Day School is about balance—mind, body, and creative spirit working together to shape confident, well‑rounded learners. Through athletics and the arts, students discover their strengths, build resilience, and learn what it means to be part of a team and a community. Whether on the court, on the stage, or in the studio, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, express who they are, and grow with purpose.

Athletics: Building Character Through Competition

Athletics at Evansville Day School are more than games—they are a natural extension of our educational mission. From Primary School through Upper School, students are invited to challenge themselves physically and mentally while learning the value of teamwork, perseverance, and leadership.

As a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), Evansville Day School competes in Class 1A postseason play and offers a variety of competitive sports throughout the year. Our no‑cut policy ensures that every student has the opportunity to participate, grow, and belong—regardless of prior experience.

Coaches at EDS are teachers and mentors first, modeling the same values emphasized in the classroom: grit, sportsmanship, collaboration, and personal growth. Through wins and losses alike, students gain confidence, discipline, and resilience—skills that last far beyond the scoreboard.

The Arts: A Canvas for Creativity and Confidence

The arts are woven into the fabric of life at Evansville Day School. We believe creativity is not an extracurricular—it is a way of thinking, problem‑solving, and understanding the world. Through visual arts, music, theater, and digital media, students develop confidence, self‑expression, and the courage to bring ideas to life.

From our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, artistic exploration is part of the everyday experience. Students paint, perform, design, compose, and create across disciplines, often integrating the arts into broader academic learning. In the Siebolt iLab, students blend technology with artistic expression, exploring design, engineering, and innovation in hands‑on ways that foster bold, creative thinking.

A Stage for Every Student

Performing arts at EDS provide students with meaningful opportunities to find their voice and build confidence. Led by Director of Performing Arts Laura D’Alto, the program offers an inclusive and supportive environment where students can explore theater, music, and movement at every stage of development. With three annual musicals, ensemble and solo performances, and integrated fine arts instruction, students learn collaboration, storytelling, and creative risk‑taking—skills that serve them well beyond the stage.

Growing Mind, Body, and Spirit

Whether competing in athletics or creating through the arts, students at Evansville Day School experience the powerful connection between physical activity, creative expression, and personal growth. These experiences nurture resilience, emotional intelligence, and confidence—key qualities reflected in our Portrait of a Graduate.

Student life at EDS is not about choosing between athletics or the arts. It’s about discovering passions, building balance, and developing the skills and character to thrive—wherever the journey leads.
