Two Evansville Day School students were selected to study abroad in Ireland this summer! Both were selected through prestigious university programs.  

Evansville Day School junior Alaina Clements has been accepted into the highly competitive Notre Dame Pre-College International Study Abroad Program. She will be studying in Ireland under Notre Dame educators, as well as local Irish scholars.

Alaina was accepted for the program following an application process that included submission of transcripts, teacher recommendations, and essays about why she wants to attend the program.  

“I really love to travel,” Alaina said. “You can learn so much more about the history and culture of a place than you can through learning at home.”  

She and her peers in the program will discover the rich history and culture of both bustling Dublin and bucolic Connemara, Ireland, during this 12-day seminar on the Emerald Isle. They will embark on an exploration of Irish culture, history, and landscape through what Notre Dame's O’Connell House calls "learning through the soles of your feet." With seminars held at the Keough-Naughton Notre Dame Center in Dublin and the historic castle of Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, students will be treated to numerous sites of interest in both the east and west.

Evansville Day School sophomore William Foster will attend the Walton International Program at Trinity College Dublin. This program offers high school students a unique 10-day STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) educational experience at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.  

When asked what he is most anticipating, William responded, “I’m looking forward to learning more about science and technology and seeing Ireland for the first time.”

William will work alongside like-minded students, STEM academics, and PhD students from Trinity College. They will engage in a variety of STEM activities, such as designing mathematical functions, building micro-controlled projects, experimenting with Newton’s Laws, and more.   

Trinity College is Ireland’s oldest university and one of Europe’s most prestigious universities. It is home to literary legends such as Oscar Wilde, WB Yeats, and Jonathan Swift. Trinity is also world-renown in the math and science community for many famous scientists, such as William Rowan Hamilton and ETS Walton, who won the Nobel Prize for splitting the atom in 1951.
