Day School Celebrates International Day of Peace

This Friday, September 21, at 8:00 am, students in Evansville Day School’s Primary School will participate in the United Nation’s International Day of Peace. Students in JPK through fourth grade will be cheered by Middle and Upper School supporters as they parade through the hallways carrying the “Pinwheels for Peace” they created during innovation class. At the end of the parade, students will gather for a story. Class representatives will also share the word “peace” in the language of their families’ origins, including Arabic, Russian, Mandarin, German, Filipino, and more. Parent volunteers will later display the pinwheels on the fence along Green River Road to inspire passersby to celebrate Peace.

Head of Primary School Robin Renschler shares, “As a diverse school, we have a unique opportunity to celebrate our global family and share the message of peace with our students. Helping them understand that we are part of the larger global community teaches them to respect cultures different from their own, building a future of acceptance and unity.”

According to the International Day of Peace website, “The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.”

Evansville Day School’s unique educational experience as the area’s only independent school allows our students and faculty to participate in bold and rewarding opportunities, inspiring balanced, resilient, globally minded, entrepreneurial learners, who will be the innovators of the future.
