Meet the Summer Academy Educators

Amanda Bultemeier

Director of Marketing

Summer Academy Director

I have been at Evansville Day School for over two years in the Marketing & Enrollment Management department. I graduated from University of Evansville with a BA in Business Administration. This is my third summer as part of the Summer Academy team, and I am excited to see the families who return year after year! As a parent myself (to Grayson, a Day School and Summer Academy student), I strive to make Summer Academy as parent-friendly as it is student-friendly.


Carla Englebright

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

I have been in Early Childhood education for more than 10 years. I received my Bachelor of Science in Family Life and Child Development from the University of the Philippines, in 2000. I have worked in Private Catholic schools and progressive schools in the Philippines. I have been teaching Preschool at EDS for the past 9 years. The first year, I spent teaching in Pre-K then moved to JPK. After 2 years of teaching JPK, I had the opportunity to move to Pre-K, where I have been for the past 6 years. I strongly believe that children learn best by hands on experience and play. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 11 years. We have 2 beautiful daughters, Chloe who is in first grade at EDS and Cami who is 3 years old.


Alice Galbreath

Jr. Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

I have worked in the field of Early Childhood for over 15 years, working with infants through school age children. I earned my Master's degree in education from the University of Southern Indiana in 2008. In 2010, I received the Becky Trela Creativity Award.


Katie Bockting

Jr. Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

I have been in early childhood for 7 years. I graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor degree in early childhood education and special education. I have taught in many different settings including faith based preschools, private schools, and public schools. I have been teaching Junior Pre-Kindergarten at Evansville Day School for the past two years. I believe children learn best through hands on experiences and play.


Sarah Mota

First Grade Teacher

I graduated from Oakland City University in 2012 with a dual degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I have been a part of the Evansville Day School family for 5 years. I love learning and have had the privilege of expanding my teaching expertise in many different areas at the school including Library, Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Technology and Innovation. I was part of the Evansville Day School and NASA's ARISS and Reduced Gravity Flight Programs. In my spare time I enjoy reading, spending time with my family and pets, and coaching the Upper School cheerleading team.


Karen Meacham

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

I have been in the field of Early Childhood Education for more than 20 years. I have an undergraduate degree in Theatre Arts from Wake Forest University and a master's degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I studied with Dr. Lillian Katz. I have worked at independent schools in Massachusetts, North Carolina and Indiana, a Head Start program, public schools, Catholic schools, and a Montessori school. I have also visited and studied a variety of schools that employ alternative teaching methods including The Project Approach, Montessori and Waldorf philosophies, and the teachings of forest schools. I have completed class instruction for both the Master Gardener and Master Naturalist of Indiana programs.


Kelly Phillips

Kindergarten Teacher

I graduated from Indiana State University with a BA in Elementary Education and a Kindergarten Endorsement. After my time at ISU, I knew my passion for education and working with young children would be a lifelong journey. I began my career at Evansville Day School 17 years ago as a PreK teacher. I spent 4 years teaching in the Pre-K before moving to the 2nd grade classroom. After teaching 2nd grade for 7 years, I took the position as kindergarten teacher, where I have been for the past 6 years. My love of animals, nature, literature, and relationships play an important role in my teaching. I enjoy sharing my interests with my students, and I work to offer opportunities and experiences for children to discover their own passions.


Tia Rogers

2nd Grade Teacher

I graduated from Vincennes University with a BA in Elementary and Special Education. I knew early on in life that I wanted to be a teacher. Shortly after starting education classes at VU, I knew I had made the right decision.

I started working at Evansville Day School in 2012. I have been teaching second grade for 4 years, and I have learned something new each year. I am passionate about the taking care of the planet and animals, and helping kids navigate through social situations. I strive to bring my passions into my teaching. I truly enjoy my time with the kids, and look forward to teaching throughout Summer Academy.


Jennifer Luttrell Stevens

3rd Grade Teacher

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University in 1996. For the past 19 years, I have been blessed to teach at Evansville Day School. I have instructed students in both educational and extracurricular activities ranging  from Pre-Kindergarten through high school level. Currently, my roles at EDS are teaching third grade and coaching the Primary School Dance Team. I chose teaching as a career because I truly enjoy helping students grow socially and academically. It is my passion to instill kindness, and to teach students through hands-on experiences. My daughter, Lauren, is a junior at EDS and has had the privilege of attending school here since age 3. Outside of school, I love shopping, traveling, and spending time with my husband and daughter.


Eric Sogard

5th Grade Teacher

I received a B.A. in American Studies/Education University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and a M.S. Educational Leadership and Supervision, Hood College. I have taught in four different states (MD, NM, VA and IN) over 20 years. I enjoy working with children discovering new ideas in all subject areas highlighting discovery and hands on learning. My two children also attend EDS and I love the small classes and emphasis on individualized learning.


Betsy Gladding

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

I have been married to my wonderful husband Steve for the past 21 years.  We have two amazing daughters Annabelle 17, and Emmalee 15. I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping, art & design, flower gardening, movies and beach vacations! My degree is in Commercial Art and Advertising, I worked in the Advertising industry creating all types of media for over 10 years before starting our family. I have been in early childhood education for the past  13 years. I believe I found my calling when I started teaching patience, kindness and self control to preschool aged children. Children truly make me happy and they keep me young at heart! I love each little face and each unique personality.



Ashely Swinford

Upper School Science Teacher

I received my Bachelor in Science degree from the University of New England where I majored in Marine Biology and my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I have experience working as a conservation educator for 5 years in facilities such as: The California Wolf Center, SeaWorld San Diego, and The Lehigh Valley Zoo. I am passionate about sharing my experiences with wildlife and conservation in the classroom. I have spent the past 3 years teaching secondary biological sciences.


Sarah Brooks

Primary School Library & Innovation Teacher

I grew up in Southern California, but moved to Indiana to study at the University of Evansville. Upon graduation, I taught JPK at a private school for two years before coming to Evansville Day School. This will be my fifth year teaching at EDS, where I have had the opportunity to teach JPK, Pre-K, as well as Library and Innovation. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy coaching the dance team at University of Evansville, traveling, and spending time with my family!



Soi Powell

Primary School Science Teacher

4th Grade Robotics Coach

I am the K-4 Science teacher and also coach 4th grade robotics. I have taught at Evansville Day School for 15 years. My background is in engineering and art. I am proud to say that I have worked at NASA as a teacher intern and have flown in microgravity. The Summer Academy class I’m teaching this summer is “Mechanical Toys and Automata.” Students will use found and recycled materials to make toys based on simple laws of physics.  


Betsy Dailey

Primary & Middle School Art Teacher

I have loved art since I could hold a crayon. I was very lucky to have parents that supported my artistic endeavors, keeping me well supplied with creative materials. I majored in Studio Art at USI and have been teaching art at Evansville Day School since 2012. For the last several years, I have been working in oils and pastels. Most recently, I have been learning new techniques in fiber arts and clay. Crafting creative experiences for my students brings me great joy. When I am not teaching or making art, I my husband John and I might be working on our 100 year old house or in Seattle visiting our grown daughters. I enjoy travel, photography, gardening, coffee, books, and beautiful old things.
