Growing Through Athletics at Evansville Day School

Growing Through Athletics at Evansville Day School At Evansville Day School, athletics are about so much more than competition. They are an important part of the student experience and an extension of our mission to develop the whole child — mind, body, and spirit. From our youngest learners to our varsity athletes, students are encouraged to grow in confidence, teamwork, leadership, and resilience through meaningful athletic opportunities designed to meet them where they are. One of the unique aspects of athletics at EDS is that opportunities begin early. Even our preschool students can start exploring school [...]

College Outcomes That Reflect Who We Are

2026 Collegiate Outcomes Each spring offers a clear window into who our students are becoming. College outcomes matter, but their real value lies in what they reveal about growth, purpose, and alignment. The Evansville Day School Class of 2026 reflects that story in full. Their results are not just impressive, they are a direct expression of a student-centered approach that defines our work as one of the leading private schools in Evansville. As a college preparatory, independent school, Evansville Day School partners closely with families to support each student’s personal and academic growth. This year’s outcomes reflect what [...]

Singapore Math: Helping Students Become Confident Problem Solvers

At EDS, math is about much more than numbers and formulas. It is an experience that helps students learn how to think, reason, and approach challenges with confidence. Students develop persistence, curiosity, and confidence as they encounter new ideas. Whether solving a math problem, designing a science project, or navigating a real-life situation, the ability to think through problems matters. This belief is one of the reasons Singapore Math is implemented from PreK through 8th grade. The approach creates a clear and consistent mathematical foundation as students move through the program and prepare for the challenging work of the Upper [...]

Let Childhood Be Childhood: A Screen‑Conscious Start at Evansville Day School

Let Childhood Be Childhood: A Screen‑Conscious Start at Evansville Day School If you’ve ever wished childhood would slow down a little, you’re not alone. Many families tell us they want less rushing, less noise, and definitely fewer screens in their young children’s lives. They want their kids to spend their early years exploring, imagining, laughing, and discovering — not managing another device. At Evansville Day School, we feel the same way. That’s why our approach in the early years is simple: Preschool uses screens only on rare, meaningful occasions. Kindergarten–2nd grade uses screens sparingly and with intention. Technology grows with [...]

More Than a Language: The Power of Latin in 6th Grade

Why Latin in 6th Grade Feels a Little Like Magic at Evansville Day School Walk into our 6th Grade Latin classroom at Evansville Day School, and you might hear something surprising: not drilling flashcards, but a lot of thinking out loud. You’ll hear students puzzling, connecting, wondering, even laughing as they try to decipher a sentence or crack open the meaning of a new word. Latin — the ancient, “dead,” intimidating language of dusty textbooks — becomes something lively, social, and unexpectedly fun. At first, our 6th graders imagine Latin will be a wall of strange endings and impossible memorization. [...]

Freedom to Grow: More than a High School

Marketing and communications intern Megan Risewick is a junior at EDS, and she has been an Eagle since seventh grade. She is passionate about promoting the Upper School and building its social media presence. She is also an active member of our Student Leadership Council, academic bowl, cross country, track, and cheer teams.    When I started at EDS nearly five years ago, I was fairly aware of the things that set the school apart. We had smaller classes than public schools, unique traditions, and the physical classroom environment was much different than other schools. Yet, the way  EDS truly differs [...]

EDS Student’s Drone Film Selected for International Film Festival

Evansville Day School celebrates the success of one of its own, 3rd-grader Louisa Royer. Louisa embarked on a family trip to Romania and Hungary, guided by Evansville Day School’s Spanish teacher, Anna Gergely, this Summer. During this journey, which also included Dr. Soi Powell, a recently retired EDS science teacher, Louisa captured drone footage of Budapest’s landmarks, the quaint villages of Transylvania, and the bustling cities of Romania. Under the encouragement of Dr. Powell, she submitted her video to the Thunderbird Drone Film Festival. Her film, titled “Dangerous Plants,” was chosen as one of 30 outstanding entries from 800 submissions to [...]
