Whether it is being part of a soccer team, playing an instrument, supporting the animal shelter, exploring something new in the classroom, developing leadership skills on the ropes course at Camp Carson, competing in the Academic Bowl, or studying together in the Commons, Evansville Day School students are engaged and active. Each student is encouraged to become involved and connected to both the school and the local community by participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities, and by leading through service.
Evansville Day School offers a variety of sports and other co-curricular activities that allow each student to explore and fully develop his or her talents and interests. Please contact the Director of Admission to investigate the many and varied offerings available to students outside the classroom. We are one school with three distinct divisions, each of which maintains its own identity while working closely together to meet our mission statement goals.
Co-Curricular Activities
The EDS Upper School considers co-curricular activities to be any program that supplements classroom curriculum. These may be field trips, clubs, athletics or special events. Participating in these activities, along with meeting the responsibilities that accompany a strong, challenging curriculum, students can learn the importance of leading a healthy, balanced life.
National Honors Society
The National Honor Society chapter at Evansville Day School is a service organization for high academic achievers. Selected by a faculty committee, the NHS members are active in serving the school, the community and beyond. Students flip pancakes at all-school breakfasts to raise money for various charities, sponsor Kindness Weeks and Days, and recognize and honor the faculty during Teacher Appreciation Week. Tutoring, recycling, and other activities occur from time to time as student interest dictates.
Spirit Club
School spirit at Evansville Day School can be seen at pep rallies, sporting events, or other school activities. School spirit is more of an idea than a tangible item, and it can be achieved in a variety of ways.
Our spirited students are enthusiastic about school and support activities with positive attitudes and regular presence at school events.
While we cheer on our middle school speech team or have a pep assembly for our Upper School Academic Bowl team, more often spirit peaks around athletics. When sports fans attend a school athletic event, we can be assured that Ed, the EDS Eagle, will “fire up” the crowd. In addition, basketball season brings a theme for each game where students and parents dress up, wear face paint, prepare signs and compete to see who will be named “Fan of the Night.”
School spirit is an ongoing, positive attitude and support for your school. Day School Eagles, young and old show it by taking pride in their school and sharing that pride with the people around them.
I-Lead in the Upper School
(Inspiring Leaders through Education & Action to Make a Difference)
EDS is integrating today’s most important leadership development topics into our five-year curriculum (Grades Eight through Twelve) with the goal of providing a strong foundation for EDS graduates to become civic-oriented, knowledgeable citizens who are well prepared to adopt leadership roles at the post-secondary level and in our wider community.
We are accomplishing this goal by expanding our course offerings to include leadership development, offering a series of leadership lectures and retreats, and regularly scheduling special guest speakers. Further, we will be organizing team-driven community projects and challenging students to design a capstone intern-based leadership project during their senior year.
