Students in Upper School social studies classes experience a wide variety of subjects and methods. Our goal is to promote civic competence and expose students to history, geography, and the various social sciences. Global and international education is a vital part of the program. Students read Time magazine, participate in field trips, hear various local speakers/politicians, and write essays regularly. Courses move from world civilizations to U.S. history and government/economics, finishing with a rotating series of electives. To enhance the program, students may participate in Law Day, the State Academic Bowl, and various writing contests with history themes.
