Primary School Student Life

eds primary school student life

Comprehensive co-curricular offerings are an essential component of Primary School student life.  Students are encouraged to pursue an activity, develop new interests, and enhance their overall educational experience.  Not all co-curricular activities are available to all grade levels.

Clubs

Club offerings currently include:

  • Chess
  • Choir
  • Robotics
  • Pom-Pom

Community Service

Primary School students find a number of ways to give back to the community.  Our service learning program engages our students through projects and curricula that instill an understanding of citizenship and its importance.  As part of their school experience, students work with the elderly at Holiday Health Care, raise money for the Vanderburgh County Humane Society, trick or treat for UNICEF, and sponsor an annual empty bowls dinner to benefit local food banks, all with the goal of fostering a lifelong commitment to service.

Field Trips

The Primary School recognizes the value of taking learning outside the classroom.  During our field trips, which take place throughout the year, students explore resources not available in class, thereby allowing them to build crucial connections between classroom learning and the wider world beyond.

Trips may include:

  • Apple/Pumpkin orchards
  • Evansville Association of the Blind
  • Evansville Philharmonic
  • Historic New Harmony
  • Historic Vincennes
  • Holiday Health Care
  • Mesker Park Zoo
  • Vanderburgh County Humane Society

School Events

Evansville Day School prides itself on creating strong relationships among students, faculty, and parents.  To further develop our sense of shared community, the Primary School participates in a variety of events that celebrate the uniqueness of our particular program in tandem with the successes of the Day School as a whole.

Annual Events include:

  • All School Picnic
  • Grandparent’s Day
  • School-wide Thanksgiving dinner
  • Portfolio Night
  • State and Country Day
