Primary School Social Studies

eds social studies

The ultimate goal of the Social Studies program is to encourage students to be productive members of their families, school, and community.  To achieve this, the Social Studies program incorporates a wide range of learning experiences.  In the Junior Pre-K, Pre-K, and Kindergarten, we engage students by studying geography and holiday traditions from around the world.  Kindergarten students share important facts about themselves and other classmates through the “Learn about Me” study unit.  Students in Kindergarten through Grade Four encounter the wider world by reading and discussing weekly issues of Time For Kids magazine.

Older students in the Primary School study the history of their state and/or country, and engage in research, letter writing, and role-play.  Children are encouraged to be productive students and active citizens who support their local community by volunteering at the Humane Society, making regular visits at a nursing home, and donating to families in need during the winter holidays.  They also reach out internationally by contributing to UNICEF and to those in need when world crises occur.
