Beginning in the Pre-school years, the Primary School introduces Spanish as a FLEX Program (Foreign Language Exploratory Program). For Pre-Schoolers, classes meet weekly and extend to twice weekly beginning in Kindergarten. We focus on ensuring that each child’s first contact with a foreign language is both stimulating and enjoyable. Lively games, activities, literature, and songs reinforce the acquisition of oral and visual vocabulary and encourage students to speak in Spanish. Students develop knowledge of the most common vocabulary as well as a wealth of cultural awareness concerning the many Spanish-speaking countries.
General goals of the FLEX Program include positively influencing children’s attitudes toward future learning opportunities, broadening children’s understanding of language as a general concept, and bringing children to a fuller understanding and appreciation of cultures other than their own.
