Co-Curricular Activities
Evansville Day School defines co-curricular activities as any program that supplements classroom curriculum. For the Middle School, these events include (but are not limited to), State and Country Day, the science fair, the annual Camp Carson trip, the D.A.R.E. program, the Grade Eight leadership program, topics for weekly advisor/advisee periods, and assemblies. These programs are built around annual themes and identified needs, and are based on observations and goals for each given academic year.
Community Service
In the spirit of giving of to others, developing our gifts and talents, and identifying the needs within and beyond our community, Evansville Day School continually seeks community service projects in which to participate. Whether this is done through grade level-specific projects or by clubs or small groups, many opportunities are presented to our school for service projects as our reputation grows for “getting the job done.” Additionally, we have clubs with the mission of community service, the Builder’s Club is the MS feeder program in to the US Key Club. Whatever the project, our students share a great sense of pride and self-worth in completing these service opportunities. We share a strong bond as a Middle School team and grow personally by knowing we have made a difference.
I-Lead Program
(Inspiring Leaders through Education & Action to Make a Difference)
Based on a five-year study, Evansville Day School recently instituted a leadership program and has integrated this into the curriculum with the objective of helping our graduates develop into confident young leaders. At the Middle School level, eighth graders are introduced into the program by learning their strengths, the types of leaders and how we best work in teams. They also take part in retreats where they learn more about group dynamics and how to problem-solve. Our students draw upon these skills throughout the school year and are asked to build upon personal strengths in preparation to delve deeper into leadership topics in our Upper School.
