The Middle School math curriculum focuses on a deep understanding of mathematics in order to provide the strong foundation that will help students be successful in future math classes. Our paramount goal is to assist students in developing the life skill of problem solving while promoting their critical thinking skills. This is achieved by setting high math standards, providing a small student-teacher ratio, incorporating a variety of instructional techniques, using technology, engaging students, and creating a valued assessment.
The courses offered in the Middle School are at an advanced level. Sixth graders work from the Glencoe Course 2, a seventh grade, curriculum. All seventh graders take an honors Pre-Algebra class and all eighth graders take Algebra I.
A ninety-minute block schedule is employed for Grades Six through Eight. This allows the instructor time to discuss problem areas from homework assignments, introduce and develop fresh concepts, explore creative avenues, and practice specific skills. The instructor is also available before and after school and during some study halls to address individual needs.
