Alex Mohn ’07 spent his last quarter of school in New Zealand kayaking his way through the rivers of that country.  While on the Rangatikei, he suffered a bloody nose when he flipped over off of a 3-foot drop and a rock hit his paddle.  His group then traveled down to the South Island where they stayed in the west coast town of Hokitika and did ocean surfing in 5 to 10 foot swells.  They took a “heli-trip” on the Whataroa River where the helicopter lifts the boat, gear and paddlers to the top of the river for the run down river. Next they headed to Murchison and ran sections of the Buller River and a few laps off of Marioa Falls where they did free-wheels at a 30 foot drop.  Alex’s nose took yet another hit at Marioa Falls a bit more serious than the first one!  On their last week, they headed north making their way to Auckland where they flew, exhausted, back to the States.
