When encouraged to be, young children are natural enthusiastic learners. I love being part of a team that creates an environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover, problem solve, invent, and develop independence and self-control. It is a joy to guide these young children as they develop the confidence, attitudes, and habits that will make a difference throughout their lives. Jr. PreK teacher (6 yrs.) A proverbial Chinese story sums up my beliefs about teaching and learning with children…"Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. To be truly happy, you must take each person for what they are and by looking for the good in them.” Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education withan emphasis in language arts Indiana “Accomplished Practitioner” license in Early Childhood and Elementary Education Current professional development focus in differentiated instruction Outside philanthropic interest in homelessness and hunger: volunteer at the United Caring Shelter, participate annually in CROP Walk, support World Vision Hunger Relief cstroshine@evansvilledayschool.org |

Shaping the minds of children is an amazing responsibility. Having two young sons of my own, I am excited to work in a school that values the individuality of every child. In my classroom, I work to create an environment that is welcoming and safe. I want my students to take risks in the classroom and have fun while being challenged. During my time in the Pre-Kindergarten area I have learned that we as teachers can learn just as much from our students as they do from us. It truly is a joyful experience every day. The excitement of learning is contagious. It makes me so aware of the learning opportunities that are happening all around us. |

It is a wonderful experience to work with the EDS Kindergarten children. They have an appetite for knowledge. They are beginning to question and analyze the world around them. The most exciting part of this daily experience is the joy and love of learning. You can feel the pride and satisfaction that they have with a job well done. We grow everyday together.

I have never regretted my decision to be a teacher. I can't remember ever wanting to do anything but teach young children. My favorite activity |

Every day of working with our wonderful little children at EDS, I try to remember one of my favorite quotes about teaching: "No one has yet fully realized the wealth of sympathy, kindness, and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure."- Emma Goldman. At this young age, I feel it is so important to recognize each child's unique qualities to help them build a foundation to great success! B.S. The moments in my teaching career that stand out the most are not the big, important milestones in a student's education, rather it's the small, quiet times when things just "click". It might be when a troublesome concept is finally grasped or when each child is purposefully and postively engaged in the learning activity or when self-confidence comes to the child who needs it most. Those moments are almost magical, and to me, what teaching is all about. The same skills I teach in Science are applied daily as I strive to provide the best possible setting for the top-notch Primary School team of teachers whose passions and talents in their craft are unbound. It is through such caring and gifted teachers that I can be connected to every child in our wonderful learning environment. It is an honor to be a teacher and a colleague at Evansville Day School. What I love about teaching is giving children opportunities to experience those “Aha!” moments. Learning is an extension of life and a quest to gain more knowledge and understanding daily. As the Enrichment Specialist at EDS, I strive to ensure that varied learning opportunities are placed before each of our students. Through assessment, direct instruction, and by providing classroom teachers with resources and ideas, students’ needs are addressed on an individual basis. Our goal is to meet each student wherever they are and build up their weakness by playing on their strengths. Evansville Day School provides an environment “ripe” for allowing allwho experience an education or teach here to soar to their highest potential. BA & MA in Special Needs Education K-12 |

I strive to provide a fun, interactive class full of hands on learning and confidence boosting experiences. I love watching my students learn academic and social life lessons that will be with them throughout their lifetime. “The elementary grades constitute a defining experience for children- one that will heavily influence the life course from middle childhood to adolescence and beyond. The importance of success in school is profound. A child’s fundamental sense of self-worth as a person depends substantially on the ability to achieve in school.” What Every Parent Needs To Know About 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades Bachelor of Arts, Western Michigan University cmeersman@evansvilledayschool.org |

I have been in the teaching profession for 37 years. I’ve loved every day of constantly being inspired by all the young people. They continuously remind me that our world will be a better place if we listen and inspire children to use their compassion and knowledge to enlighten our world. |

Children have a natural curiosity for exploring the opportunities of computer literacy. My role, as a computer educator, is to provide meaningful computer applications skills while enhancing their classroom experiences. This cross curricular integration of technology promotes a deeper understanding of subject matter as well as nurturing a creative expression of knowledge. After working 20+ years in early childhood and administration on the east coast, it is a pleasure to return to Southern Indiana and join the EDS community! A good teacher loves to teach, loves students and loves the subjects he teaches. I love to teach because everyday is different. It is exciting to get up in the morning knowing that I am going to make a difference in my students’ lives. I fully enjoy students because we share. I know what I give them but they probably do not know what they give me. I like the subjects I teach because languages are so important to live in today’s world. At EDS, I found an ideal environment for such learning and I am very happy and proud to be a part of this team. |
